COURSE THEME
In Europe, as of today, there aren’t any universal strategies of integration for people with disabilities in the labour market, putting this group at greater risk of social exclusion. People with disabilities and especially youth facing the labor market for the first time, face many barriers, which are already visible at the recruitment stage and continue during apprenticeship or employment – if they can even get to this stage. There are virtually no skilled jobs offers for youth with disabilities, who are being pushed to less ambitious, unskilled and low-paid work; therefore, there aren’t many prospects for stable employment and the risk of not being able to actively take part into society is very high. An additional issue is the low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence which affect so many young people with disabilities, as a consequence of the surrounding society. The latter is paired with educational shortcomings, which causes further difficulties in the labour market.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The main objectives will be:
- to empower youth with disabilities and their independence on the labour market, by supporting their transition from school to work (be it employment or entrepreneurship);
- to promote and strengthen the culture of solidarity and inclusion at work.
- to improve social inclusion, promoting gender equality, non-discrimination, and equal opportunities;
- to broaden the knowledge about the socio-occupational functioning and possibilities of youth with disabilities in partner countries;
- to learn about effective and proven methods of professional activation of youth and people with disabilities in partner countries;
- to update skills and qualifications of staff working with youth with disabilities;
to raise awareness on the importance on inclusive societies in Europe by showing possible ways of greater inclusion of women with disabilities in the work place.
